Belly Dance Hen Party Dance Class SouthamptonNobody has ever left this one without a shimmy.
Most of the list is tribute and nostalgia. This one is an actual dance form with actual technique, which is precisely why it keeps getting booked — your party learns named movements, feels them work, and leaves having genuinely acquired something. Hip drops, figure eights, a proper shoulder shimmy and the hand movements that make all of it look effortless. Your teacher assembles it into a short sequence on the day, sized to the room, at whatever pace the group turns out to need. Run in a room we hire in central Southampton or brought out to your hen house across Hampshire. The whole group pays £185 for ninety minutes or £160 for sixty, with only the venue’s hire cost alongside. No experience of any kind is assumed.
Ask now, decide at your leisure.
A date and a rough number is all it takes to get a real answer back: what is free, which room suits, what the hire would cost and anything else you have asked about. Replies come within the day from somebody who teaches, not from an automated queue.
The equipment is already yours.
Something unusual happens in this class. Every other hen party dance class on our list asks a group to copy someone else’s shapes; this one teaches isolations, and isolations work identically on every body in the room. Nobody is at a disadvantage for height, age, size or how long it has been since they last moved deliberately — the movement is small, internal and stationary, so there is no running about and nothing to be out of breath for. Parties routinely tell us it was the most flattering ninety minutes of the weekend, which is a strange thing for a dance hen party to achieve and yet it does it reliably. Add in the fact that the sound is genuinely lovely to move to and you have a hen party idea that survives being suggested by the bride’s mother.
Every body works. Isolation technique does not care about size, age or flexibility. It is one of the great levellers in dance.
Coin scarves are yours. Lovely if you have them, entirely unnecessary if you do not — we never lend, sell or provide scarves, costumes or anything else to wear.
No midriffs required. Wear whatever you would wear to a gentle exercise class. The technique is felt rather than displayed.
The shape of an afternoon.
a guide only — your teacher paces the roomSettle and stand
Bags down, shoes off if you like, and a first look at where the weight actually goes.
Isolations, slowly
Hips, ribcage, shoulders — one at a time, unhurried, until each one stops feeling impossible.
Joining it up
Your teacher threads the movements into a short sequence composed live, adding travel and hands as the room copes.
Run it, film it
A full run of the sequence with music up, filmed once for the group and usually twice by popular demand.
the sequence your group learns is built for that room on that afternoon and is never photocopied from a previous party
Long enough to teach the technique properly and still build something the group can perform.
Focused on the fundamentals and one short sequence. A good taster when the day is tight.
This one needs very little floor, so almost any room in Hampshire works. Class fee only.
the fee is for the party rather than the person — no hen party activity of ours has ever been sold by the head, and none ever will be
Small footprint, easy to place.
Because everybody stays largely on the spot, this class fits comfortably into either of the rooms we hire — and into a great many living rooms. Whichever you choose, the hire cost is quoted in writing with your date before anything is settled.
these are rooms we hire on your behalf rather than premises of our own, so their cost is always shown to you first
Two that arrived by email.
“There were sizes and ages all over the place in our group and not one person felt awkward, which I had genuinely worried about.”
“We came out able to do an actual shimmy. Three of us have since found a weekly class. Not the outcome anybody predicted.”

six things that come up in nearly every message ↓
Do we have to show our stomachs for this class?+
Not at all, and the question comes up often enough that it deserves a plain answer. Wear anything you would wear to a gentle exercise class — leggings and a loose top is the standard uniform. The technique is about what the hips and ribcage are doing, not about what anybody can see, and your teacher will never suggest otherwise. Bare feet are usual but socks or soft shoes are fine.
Are coin scarves handed out at the start?+
No — we bring a teacher and music and that is the entire inventory. Scarves, hip belts, costumes and shoes are never lent, hired out or sold by us, so if the group fancies them somebody needs to order them in advance. Plenty of parties do, and they are undeniably satisfying to wear. Plenty of others turn up with nothing and enjoy the class exactly as much.
Is belly dancing actually achievable in one session?+
The foundations genuinely are. A shoulder shimmy, a hip drop and a figure eight can all be taught to complete beginners inside an hour, because they are isolations rather than sequences and the body picks them up faster than people believe. What you will not do is master the style in ninety minutes — nobody does — but you will leave able to do things you could not do when you arrived.
What is the total price for a Southampton hen group?+
£185 for the ninety-minute session or £160 for the hour, and after that only the venue’s hire cost — which we write down beside your available dates rather than mentioning it later. That single figure covers everybody together. Host the session at the place you are already staying and the room line vanishes from the bill entirely. It is not calculated per person, so numbers can move without the figure moving.
Will a mixed-age hen party get on with this?+
Better than with almost anything else we teach. There is no jumping, no impact and very little travelling, so knees and backs are left alone, and the isolations are equally new to the nineteen-year-old and the sixty-five-year-old. It is quietly one of the best hen do dance class choices for a party where the ages are all over the place and nobody wants to be shown up.
Could we change to a different style nearer the date?+
Yes, at no cost, up until roughly a week beforehand. All 39 themes and styles carry the same fee, so swapping is only a matter of telling us. Groups who like the idea of learning a real technique but want something louder usually look at the flamenco or samba classes instead; the booking itself holds your date and room either way.
